The Story & What to Expect
Aladdin follows a young man living on the streets of Agrabah who dreams of a life beyond his circumstances. His fortunes change when he discovers a magical lamp containing a larger-than-life Genie capable of granting three wishes.
At the same time, Princess Jasmine is frustrated by the expectations placed on her and wants the freedom to make her own choices. When Aladdin uses the Genie’s magic to reinvent himself as Prince Ali, he hopes his new identity will be enough to win Jasmine’s heart.
Standing in his way is Jafar, the Sultan’s calculating adviser, who wants the lamp—and the power that comes with it—for himself.
If you know the animated Disney film, many of the major story beats and songs will feel familiar. Broadway’s version, however, expands the story with additional characters, new songs and much larger production numbers.
The score includes Disney favourites such as A Whole New World, Friend Like Me and Prince Ali, alongside songs written specifically for the stage and material originally developed for the animated film.

The New Amsterdam Theatre
Aladdin plays at the historic New Amsterdam Theatre at 214 West 42nd Street, close to Times Square in Midtown Manhattan.
The theatre opened in 1903 and was designed by architects Herts & Tallant. When it opened, the lavish Art Nouveau building was promoted as the “House Beautiful” and was one of Broadway’s most impressive venues.
After years of decline and a period operating as a cinema, the theatre was extensively restored. Disney reopened the New Amsterdam in 1997, helping to transform this section of 42nd Street and establish the theatre as the company’s Broadway home.
Today, the New Amsterdam has approximately 1,747 seats and remains one of Broadway’s most architecturally distinctive theatres.
Getting there: The theatre is extremely convenient for Times Square. Times Sq–42 St serves the 1, 2, 3, 7, N, Q, R, W and S trains, while 42 St–Port Authority on the A, C and E lines is also nearby.
Arrival: Aim to reach the theatre around 30 minutes before the performance. All guests and bags may be subject to security screening, and latecomers are seated at the discretion of theatre management.
Where to Sit for Aladdin
The New Amsterdam is considerably larger than theatres such as the Ambassador or Richard Rodgers, so seat location can make a noticeable difference.
Aladdin also uses large-scale choreography, scenery and visual effects. That means you do not necessarily need to sit extremely close to enjoy the production.

The Aladdin Broadway Lottery
If you have a flexible schedule, the official digital lottery can be one of the cheapest ways to see Aladdin on Broadway.
The current lottery price is $35 per ticket, with a maximum of two tickets for each winner.
Entries currently open at 9:00 AM on the day before the performance and close at 3:00 PM the day before. Winners are notified after the lottery closes and have a limited period—currently 60 minutes—to purchase their tickets.
Seat locations are allocated by the box office and may include partial-view seats or other non-standard locations.
Is Aladdin Good for Families?
Yes—Aladdin is one of the easiest Broadway recommendations for families visiting New York.
The production is recommended for children aged 6 and older, and the combination of familiar Disney characters, colourful scenery, comedy and large-scale musical numbers gives younger visitors plenty to watch.
That said, it is still a full Broadway musical running approximately two and a half hours. For very young children who struggle to sit through a feature-length film, the running time is worth considering.
The New Amsterdam’s location also makes the show straightforward to combine with a Times Square visit, although the area immediately before and after performances can be extremely busy.
