Getting to the Santiago Bernabéu

The Bernabéu sits in Madrid’s Chamartín district, about 4km north of the city centre, and is one of the easiest stadiums in Europe to reach on public transport.

• Metro: Line 10 stops directly at Santiago Bernabéu station, a two-minute walk from the ground. From central Madrid (Sol, Gran Vía) allow 20-25 minutes door to door.
• Bus: Several city routes stop near the stadium, including lines 14, 27, 40, 43, 120, 126, 147 and 150.
• On foot: Many hotels along Paseo de la Castellana are within a 20-30 minute walk.

Driving is possible but not recommended on matchdays — the surrounding streets get heavily congested and parking near the stadium is limited, with upwards of 12,000 fans arriving on foot or by metro for a full house.

Seating at the Bernabéu

Following its recent renovation, the Bernabéu holds just over 80,000 fans across a five-tier bowl with a retractable roof. Lower tiers put you closest to the pitch, middle tiers offer the best tactical view of the game, and the upper tiers are the most affordable way in for a big fixture. The most vocal home support is concentrated behind the south goal (Fondo Sur), while visiting fans are typically housed in a corner of the upper tier.

Prices vary heavily by opponent and seat category. Ordinary La Liga fixtures against mid-table sides are the best value; El Clásico, the Madrid derby and Champions League knockout football command a significant premium and sell out fastest.

Where to Stay

For matchday convenience, look at hotels around Chamartín/Santiago Bernabéu itself or along Paseo de la Castellana for a short metro hop on Line 10. For a base that also suits sightseeing on non-matchdays, Salamanca and the Sol/Gran Vía area put you closer to the historic centre, with the Bernabéu still a straightforward 20-25 minute metro ride away.

Beyond match day, Madrid rewards a few extra days: the Prado and Reina Sofía museums, Retiro Park, the Royal Palace, and the tapas bars of La Latina and Malasaña.
