Foo Fighters and the Take Cover Tour

Foo Fighters were formed by Dave Grohl in 1994 and are Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees. Songs like “Everlong”, “The Pretender”, “Best of You”, “Learn to Fly” and “Times Like These” have made them one of the biggest live rock acts in the world. The Take Cover Tour is the band’s 15th visit to Australia, with licensed all-ages stadium shows across Australia and New Zealand.

After Melbourne the tour plays Adelaide on 17 November. It returns in January 2027 with Christchurch on 19 January, Auckland on 22 January and Perth on 25 January.

Tickets

Tickets for the Australian shows went on sale in late February, and AXS is the ticketing agent for the Melbourne show. If the face-value seats you want have gone, resale marketplaces such as Hello Tickets and Ticombo list tickets for the Melbourne date. Resale prices are set by sellers and can sit above or below face value, so compare sections and fees before you buy.

Tip: set your budget and preferred area of the stadium before you search. Prices for standing and lower-bowl seats move fastest as the show gets closer.

The venue: Marvel Stadium

Marvel Stadium sits on Bourke Street in Docklands, on the western edge of Melbourne’s city centre. It is a covered stadium with a retractable roof, best known for Australian rules football, and it regularly hosts large concerts. Its position next to Southern Cross Station makes it one of the easiest major venues in Australia to reach without a car.

The show is licensed all ages and recommended for ages five and up. Anyone aged 14 and under needs to be accompanied by a responsible adult, and General Admission standing is recommended for ages 15 and over. Gates and set times had not been confirmed at the time of writing, so check Marvel Stadium’s official site for bag rules and entry times closer to the date.

Where to sit

For this show the floor is sold as General Admission standing, split into GA Front and GA Rear, with reserved seating on the three levels that curve right round the stadium. The stage sits at one end of the field with a narrow runway reaching out into GA Front. Each level is numbered 1 to 48, running clockwise from the sections directly behind the stage. The map below shows how the stadium fits together.

Illustrated seating guide for Foo Fighters at Marvel Stadium, Melbourne, showing the stage and runway, GA Front and GA Rear standing, and the Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 rings
  • GA Front: standing, closest to the stage and runway.
  • GA Rear: standing, set back behind GA Front.
  • Level 1: the lower ring right round the field, with an elevated view of the stage.
  • Level 2: the middle ring, higher up with a wider view.
  • Level 3: the upper ring, the highest and furthest seats.

If you are choosing between standing and seated, think about how you like to watch a show. Standing puts you closer but on your feet for the whole night, while a seat in Level 1 gives you a raised, more comfortable view of the stage.

Getting there and getting around

Flights

Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine) is the main gateway. The Skybus runs from the airport to Southern Cross Station in roughly 30 to 40 minutes, and Southern Cross is a short walk from the stadium. Most international visitors need an Australian visa or electronic travel authority before flying, so confirm entry requirements on the official government site.

To the stadium

  • Train: Southern Cross Station is next to the stadium, a short walk across the Bourke Street pedestrian bridge. Some lines, including the new Cranbourne, Pakenham and Sunbury line, do not run through Southern Cross, so you may need to change. Check the PTV app before you travel.
  • Tram: routes 30, 35, 70, 75 and 86 run to the stadium via La Trobe Street and Harbour Esplanade. Routes 96, 11 and 48 stop on nearby streets, each a short walk away.
  • Bus: the bus terminus is at Southern Cross Station.
  • Ferry: Port Phillip Ferries berth at Docklands, directly across the street from the stadium, with services from Portarlington and Geelong.
  • Driving: parking is limited and should be pre-booked through UbiPark. The car park has a height limit of 2.1 metres.
  • Taxi and rideshare: taxi ranks sit on Bourke Street and La Trobe Street. Agree a pick-up point away from the main entrances to avoid the post-show queue.

Special event services are listed on the PTV website and app for big events, so check for this show closer to the date.

Where to stay

The most convenient bases are Docklands, Southbank and South Wharf, all close to the stadium, or the CBD, with its wider choice of hotels, bars and restaurants. Concert weekends push prices up, so book early and choose a flexible rate if you can.

Suggested hotel: Pan Pacific Melbourne

Pan Pacific Melbourne is in South Wharf, on the Yarra River and connected to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. The hotel says Southern Cross Station is about a 5-minute tram ride or a 15-minute walk away, and the stadium is next to that station. It also has several restaurants and a club lounge, so it suits a longer trip where the hotel is part of the experience.

Things to do in Melbourne

If you are travelling for the show, add a day or two. Melbourne is a big, walkable city with an easy tram network, and the riverside area around Southbank and South Wharf is close to both the stadium and the main sights.

Yarra River sightseeing cruise

The Yarra runs right through the city, and a one-hour sightseeing cruise is a relaxed way to see Melbourne’s well-known sights from the water. The cruise has a live guide, and snacks and drinks are sold onboard. It suits the daytime before the show, when you want something low-effort.

SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium

SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium is a good wet-weather option, with jellyfish, penguins, seahorses and many types of fish. The ticket is valid for one day, with start times shown at checkout, so it is easy to fit around an evening show.

Great Ocean Road day trip

The Great Ocean Road is the classic day trip from Melbourne. This tour runs for about 12 to 13 hours from central Melbourne, with stops that include London Bridge, Loch Ard Gorge, the Razorback and the Twelve Apostles. It takes the whole day and starts early, so it works best the day before or after the show rather than on show day.

Practical tips for fans

  • Arrive early. Entry queues take longer on a big stadium night, and trains and trams will be busy on a Saturday evening.
  • Check Marvel Stadium’s bag policy, age guidelines and entry details before you leave your hotel, and look for confirmed gates and set times closer to the date.
  • Plan your ride home in advance: a train from Southern Cross, a tram stop or a taxi pick-up point away from the entrances. Check for disruptions in the PTV app.
  • November is late spring in Victoria, and the weather can change quickly. A light layer is worth packing for the walk to and from the stadium.
  • If you are standing, think about comfortable shoes and ear protection, as stadium rock shows are loud.
  • Only buy tickets from sellers you trust, and compare resale prices against face value.
